The 1st Legendary Super Saiyan

"According to legend, the last Super Saiyan could only maintain his status in the transformed state. His power was extraordinary, he had no equal in the universe. But he was too primitive to control it, his rage burned so intensely that it eventually consumed him. In the end, he was destroyed by his own power."
— Vegeta, in "Goku's New Power"

The Original Super Saiyan (先代の超サイヤ人, Sendai no Sūpā Saiya-jin; lit. "Previous Generation Super Saiyan") was an unnamed Saiyan who could transform into a Super Saiyan. He was originally thought to be nothing more than a myth.

Vegeta states that the last Super Saiyan to appear was a thousand years prior (three thousand in the Ocean dub) to the beginning of Dragon Ball Z. The original legend of the Super Saiyan was more about his power than the Saiyan himself, stating that he had achieved a level of power so overwhelming that it could only be maintained in a transformed state. When the Dragon Ball Z anime was released, a filler scene in the episode "Goku's New Power" was added showing the Super Saiyan as a Great Ape with yellowish colored fur instead of the standard brown. It may be that he was the first Golden Great Ape, and he could not control it, which ultimately led to his demise.

The Super Saiyan was fabled to have been destroyed by his own power, and the filler visual in the anime suggests that his power destroyed the planet that he was on. Vegeta states that the Original Super Saiyan destroyed the Original Saiyan Homeworld immediately after his transformation, thus forcing the remaining Saiyan survivors to flee to Planet Plant (which was later renamed Planet Vegeta). In the series, the form is believed to be a myth, until Vegeta begins to suspect that Goku is a Super Saiyan after seeing his drastic increase in power in a short period of time. Vegeta's suspicions are not confirmed until later, when Goku transforms against Frieza, and states that he is a Super Saiyan.

Contrary to Bardock who transformed into a Super Saiyan on Planet Plant, only seen in this form by Plants and Chilled, the Original Super Saiyan transformed on the original Saiyan homeworld, among other Saiyans. Bardock's story in Episode of Bardock explains Frieza's fear of the Saiyans, as Chilled passed his knowledge of Super Saiyans to his descendants, while the Original Super Saiyan explains the Saiyans' knowledge of the Super Saiyan legend.

Toyble's Plant History

Herms has translated Toyble's planet Plant history: "The Plant-seijin/"Plantians" seen in Episode of Bardock were the first inhabitants of Planet Plant. Then the Tsufuru-jin migrated over, and the two races got along fine. Eventually the Saiya-jin show up too. The Tsufuru-jin are initially opposed to the Saiya-jin settling on Plant, but the Plantians allow it, because they remember the legend of the golden-haired warrior who saved their planet a thousand years ago, and who had referred to himself as a Saiya-jin. So the Tsufuru-jin respect the Plantians' wishes, since it is originally their planet after all, and a peace treaty is made between the three races. 200 years later, in Age 720, King Vegeta breaks this treaty and leads the Saiyan-jin against the other two races. The Plantians are aghast: "What about the legend of the golden-haired Saiya-jin who saved us? That's why we let you settle here in the first place!" "Hmph!" says King Vegeta "Everyone knows Saiya-jin only have black hair. You must be thinking of someone else." King Vegeta and co. wipe out the Plantians and go on to fight the Tsufuru-jin. And the rest is history."

Dragon Ball AF Evil Goku Saga

"Returned to the living world, Goku cannot control his power. Super Saiyan 5 makes him go evil and transform into an evil being. Now Vegeta has to become the star. Vegeta will unlock a new form (SSJ5? I'm.. not sure) and he beats Goku, becoming the strongest actually! And the hero! But of course, Goku is 'returned to his senses', or it's revealed that an evil demon was in his soul controling him (depending on which site)."

Toyble's Dragon Ball AF Volume 4 Update

“When are new DBAF pages coming out?”

Actually, Volume 4 has been scanned and typeset, I just haven’t put it up on the site here yet. I’m currently moving this blog to another domain and reworking this domain. (Don’t worry, you’ll still be able to get the DBAF pages from desirecampbell.com/dbaf ; just the blog’s main page is being moved).

Also, I’m working on repackaging the previous 200 pages into volumes like this release. No solid ETA on that, but I’m hoping for next week.

In the meantime you can see the pages for volume 4 here: http://db.tt/emRI8iXj

Dragon Ball Zero

English scanlations of the Dragon Ball Zero doujinshi, made by Toyble and based on scans provided by Gokuten. This is a short story about Raditz' history before and right after the destruction of Planet Vegeta. Enjoy (and remember to read from right to left)!

Who was Goku's Mother?

Goku's mother is a low level ranked Saiyan named Gine. Gine was Bardock's mate, a close friend to Fasha, and the mother of Raditz and Goku. She not only had long spikey hair like Raditz, she also had a nasty attitude like him. Gine was killed along with the other Saiyans when Frieza destroyed planet Vegeta.
